It feels like summer is well and truly upon us now but don’t let it slip away without making the most of the best few months of the year. Here are 5 things you can do to prepare to have the best summer of your life!

1. A New Hair-Do

A change in season is the perfect excuse to take a trip to the salon. Take a couple of inches off the ends or run some lighter tones through your locks and you’ll walk out feeling like a brand new person. I spend most of the summer with my hair up in a bun or ponytail but I still like it to look sleek and shiny. While you’re at it a mani pedi wouldn’t be a bad idea too!

2. Update Your Wardrobe

This one is a no brainer, it’s time to put away the chunky knits and brave bare legs. This year in the UK we’ve been blessed with intermittent heatwaves and temperatures hitting over 30 degrees and we’ve not even reached the height of summer yet! It’s a great chance to buy floaty summer numbers in preparation for the heat but with so many trends doing the rounds there is ample inspiration to give your whole wardrobe a new look. Try an off the shoulder dress or paper bag style loose trousers for an uber chic look without breaking the bank.

3. Make Plans

Plan to do something that you look forward too. It might be a holiday or festival that you’ve got planned this summer or even just a day trip with friends. It’s so important to take a break from everyday life and enjoy spending time with people who make you feel good. I always try and get out of the house as much as possible, even just a walk around the block after dinner makes me feel like I’ve enjoyed the outdoors just a little bit after a day stuck behind a computer screen. Make the most of the longer days and balmy weather.

4. Forget About That Beach Body

How many times have you heard the term ‘beach body’ between Christmas and now? Probably far too many like I have and I think it’s time to put a stop to it. Your body is beach ready whether you train every day or haven’t exerted yourself for 10 years. We spend too long worrying about how we look on that one holiday where we may or may not get to wear a bikini. So this summer let’s forget about crazy diets and bootcamps, the beach will be ready for whatever body you decide to give it.

5. Don’t Neglect Your Skin

The hot weather can do a lot of damage to our skin but there are a few things we can do to protect ourselves. Make sure you always use SPF, even if you plan to be inside. The SPF in face creams or makeup isn’t really good enough when the sun rays are strong. Invest in a good sun screen, not all of them are pasty and make all the bugs stick to you! My favourite is the Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Ultra Radiance Lotion Sunscreen because it absorbs in to the skin really easily and smells like a Pina Colada! Secondly, drink as much water as you can. I’m terrible at drinking enough but I find carrying a litre bottle with me encourages me to drink more.

Let me know your plans for the summer and how you like to prepare in the comments below!

I’m no stranger to falling out of love with my blog and blogging in general. It’s a strange thing as my passion to blog is still there but my drive to do so lags at times. As far as I can tell that’s pretty normal for us bloggers and it’s not a bad thing to admit from time to time! In fact, it’s quite refreshing to hear others say they are lacking motivation too. For those occasions when you are struggling to create content for your blog here a few of my favourite tips to get back on track. Blogging tips

Whether your feeling stressed or uninspired the best thing to do is to take a break. Staring at a computer screen won’t spark your imagination and will probably leave you feeling even more frustrated. Sometimes I think we put too much pressure on delivering posts or videos on the days we say will. While it’s great to have consistency, blogging is about real life and sometimes it’s not possible to hit a schedule. As long as you keep your followers informed, don’t stress about being late or taking a week off. See How Far You’ve Come

When I feel most frustrated with blogging I become quite dramatic and have been known to declare that I never want to blog again. Obviously I don’t mean it but emotions can run high when you work on personal projects. It’s always a good idea to sit back and reflect on how far your blog has come. Trust that your work is good and constantly developing and being stuck is one step away from having a stroke of genius. It’s also worth remembering how many people have blogs and how many people give up on them. The fact that you’re still going is quite an achievement.

This kind of goes hand in hand with taking a break. If you have a spurt of inspiration get as much blogging done as possible while your brain is still whirring. Take as many pictures as you can, write lists of blog post ideas and save articles and other blogs to browse ready for those times when you have brain block. This way you won’t feel so guilty to take a week or two off, you can schedule pre-written posts to keep your consistency, well, consistent.

If you blog about fashion, take time to look at food blogs. If you always read women’s blogs, search for blogs written by men. I find myself doing this more and more. It’s amazing how many ideas you can get from studying blogs you’ve never looked at before. It can be really inspiring and a good way to leverage tips from others. If you don’t know where to start to find new blogs, websites like Blog Lovin’ are a great way to search through the latest blogs posts by topic.

Yep, that’s right. This is nothing against fellow bloggers but sometimes you can find yourself in a rut, interacting with the same people day in day out. It’s an amazing feeling when someone who doesn’t blog or who doesn’t understand blogging starts to ask you questions about your blog and suddenly you’re talking for ages about how you started and what motivates you. If that doesn’t ignite your passion again, I don’t know what will!

Chokers have been creeping their way back in to fashion recently. It’s taken me a while, but I’ve decided that this is a trend I can definitely get involved with. I love how simple they are. This one I’m wearing from Lamoda has to be my favourite. Lamoda has become my go-to place for accessories, my shoes and sunglasses are from them too.  You can get 20% off everything on Lamoda.co.uk using code BALLIN20 valid from 31.03.2016 – 04.04.2016.

I thought I was looking forward to winter this year but now the freezing weather has come I’m not so sure! Luckily it is the season for big knits to make the cold more bearable. I’ve always loved those crisp Tumblr images of tall fashionista’s draped in chic oversized knits strutting the streets of New York. But at 5″3 pretty much every knitted jumper looks oversized on me and not in a good way! So here is what I look for when I shop for oversized knitwear:

Always Go A Size Smaller

Whenever I see the words “oversized” in a product description it sets alarm bells ringing in my head. I never really know how oversized they mean but sure enough when I try the item on I look swamped. I also find that knits stretch slightly as you wear and wash them. So to make sure you don’t end up looking drowned try buying a size smaller than you usually would.

Be Adventurous

I used to think there were only two styles of jumpers worth wearing, roll necks and crew necks. If I had to choose I’d still opt for one of those two varieties but sometimes us petite people don’t have that luxury. Now I tend to look for knitwear with more tailoring like a drop hem or a V-neck. It breaks up the bulky material and allows you to be more versatile.

Layering oversized knits makes them super easy to wear in unpredictable weather. There’s nothing worse than sweltering indoors because you’ve been prepared for the winter weather outside. That’s why oversized knits work really well, they leave you enough room to layer under and over.

I realise that I’m a bit late to the party but seeing as this is the first post of the year it seems only right to wish you all a Happy New Year! Although it has been a little while since I’ve posted anything on the blog, I’ve started 2016 with about a million new ideas that I can’t wait to try out. I always feel slightly reluctant to make New Year’s resolutions or shout about what I have planned because things change from one week to the next, but I am really excited to show you guys the posts I’ve got coming up over the next few months.

But before all that good stuff starts I’ve taken advantage of the miserable January weather to bring my outfits right back to basics. Recently I have been on the look out for comfortable and practical outfits for the winter and I think this ensemble is here to stay. You regulars already know I am a jeans girl through and through but leather jackets are also my weakness. This one has been in my wardrobe for years and is a go-to all year round for me so you might see it crop up from time to time!
