Now that September is here it is safe to say the coats and knits can come out. I always thought I was a summer girl because I prefer warm weather, evening BBQs and trips to the beach; plus my birthday is in the summer! I pretty much love everything that comes with the good weather. But this year I have been dying to get in to autumn/winter wear. Maybe it’s because the weather has been a bit miserable here in England the last couple of weeks but what better excuse to don my favourite colour and the warmest coat I could find!

Percy & Reed products

I’ve been so excited to write this post, not only to launch the beauty section of the blog, but to tell you guys about a range of hair products that really work. I get asked so many questions nearly every day about what I use on my hair and how I maintain it. But I can never really answer comprehensively because I haven’t found any products worth recommending. Which is saying something because I’ve tried so many over the years! I have naturally straight, long, thick hair so holding any kind of hairstyle for more than a few hours is a challenge. Before long my hair is hanging limp and flat around my face as if I hadn’t styled it. One thing I always wish for is lots of volume but a bouncy blow-dry seemed an unattainable dream for me. That is until I discovered Percy & Reed.

Being a salon brand, Percy & Reed may be slightly dearer than a highstreet brand but it is more than justified by the finish of the products, both aesthetically and practically. I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging, especially if it is monochrome and this one ticks the box! The simplistic bottles and cute illustrations make these products the type you would be proud to display in your bathroom.

Smoothed, Sealed & Sensational Volumising No Oil, Oil (For Thick Hair)

Some of you may have seen me write about this product in my handbag musthaves post. I got my hands on a sample of the product from June’s edit of ELLE magazine. The first time I used it I wasn’t really expecting much and I certainly wasn’t expecting the amazing results it gave me. My hair was sumptuously smooth and shiny all the way through after just one use, something that it hasn’t been for a long time! The Oil even hydrated the ends of my hair which tend to get dry and brittle which is an added bonus. After a bit of research I found out that the Oil contains vitamin B5 which protects against heat, so its perfect to use pre blow-dry. The No Oil, Oil part is true too, there was no greasy residue left after I used the product which gave me the confidence to use the Oil near my roots when I next washed my hair to add that extra bit of volume.

No Oil Oil hands

How to use:

Pump 2-3 drops in to the palm of your hand.

Warm the product up by rubbing palms together.

Run fingers from the root to the tips of damp hair.

Dry hair as normal.

Abundantly Bouncy Volumising Mousse

The first thing that struck me about this Mousse is the texture of my hair after I used it. It wasn’t sticky or crusty like so many of the other brands I’ve tried. It left my hair feeling weightless and, as the label says, truly bouncy! I was surprised at this because I used the Mousse in conjunction with the No Oil, Oil and thought the combination of the products may be too heavy and weigh my hair down. I used a comb to distribute the mousse evenly through my hair, although you can also use your fingers. The feel of the Mousse is more creamy than frothy which makes it feel like you’re using a luxury treatment on your hair, not a styling product. I will definitely be incorporating this product in to my hair care routine on the days when I feel like I need that extra boost or a bit of a pamper!

How to use:

Spray a golf ball sized amount of mousse in to the palm of your hand.

Dip a comb in to the mousse and run through the lengths of your hair. Alternatively, you can use your fingers.

Dry hair like normal.

8 Things Every Girl Should Have In Her Handbag

August 21, 2015
Comments Off on 8 Things Every Girl Should Have In Her Handbag

I know what you’re probably thinking, Whats In My Handbag posts are so overdone, but stick with me on this one! I always enjoy reading these posts or sitting through hours of Youtube videos watching bloggers empty the contents of their handbags. There is something incredibly intriguing and quite personal about noseying in someone else’s bag! So I guess it’s my turn to delve into the depths of my handbag and show you my most prized possessions.

Mango Little Tote Bag

Before I start I must confess that this post has also partially arisen as a result of a new purchase! I recently bought the Little Tote Bag from Mango. It is really similar to the famous Givenchy Antigona small tote but costs about £1,020 less! Buying a small bag is a huge change for me because I am a self proclaimed large bag addict. Tote bags, bucket bags, shopper bags, I’ve got the lot but I don’t own a small or medium everyday handbag. I’m one of those people who like to carry their entire life on their arm. It could be the middle of winter and you’ll find a tube of sun cream at the bottom of my bag, you know, just in case. My real challenge now is to eliminate the debris that sits at the bottom of my large bags and only carry the essentials.

So apart from the usual handbag items, like your phone, purse, keys etc what else do you need to carry with you? These are my top 8 items that I really couldn’t do without.

There was a time not so long ago when you would find a notebook and pen in my bag but recently I prefer carrying my iPad mini around. It’s roughly the same size and weight as a notebook but you can do so much more on it then just jot things down. When I’m out and about I use mine to write to-do lists, read e-books or keep on top of social media. The possibilities are endless so it’s definitely a worthwhile handbag companion.

Percy and Reed

Volumising No Oil, Oil

This is a new discovery of mine which I couldn’t wait to share with you, I absolutely love it! I am always sceptical about volumising hair products because so many of them haven’t worked for me. That was until I tried the Percy & Reed Volumising No Oil, Oil. Not only does it add volume but makes my hair super soft and shiny. I use this product when I wash my hair but I also carry a travel size in my bag which I use to smooth any flyaway  hairs or sleek out my ponytail. And it smells gorgeous too!

Let’s stop for a moment and acknowledge that the title of this item is singular! I think we are all guilty of having 10 lipsticks of a smilier shade in our handbags at any one time. But in my new smaller handbag space is a priority! The one you will always find in my bag is ‘Double Shot’ by Mac because it gives just the right amount of colour and glides on like a balm.

Too many times have I been in an amazing place and found that I didn’t bring my camera with me to capture the moment. Well not any more. Luckily my camera, which is the Panasonic Lumix GF6, is fairly compact so I can slide it in to my handbag and be ready to snap anything that catches my eye.

Nail File

This item is a must for me! A jagged nail can be such a irk and the longer you leave them the worse they get. There is always the worry that the nail will become painful or snag on my clothes. So as soon as I see one I’ll whip the nail file out and sand it away before any unwanted accidents happen!

Nail Polish

There is rarely a day that my fingers aren’t french manicured but the worse thing is having fresh nails and one of them chips. This is why I always carry my white nail polish around with me for such emergencies. Admittedly Chanel is a little on the pricey side but the bottles last for ages and their Eastern Light shade is a more natural white rather than some of the stark whites you get with other brands.

There are two types of people in this world, those who dab on expensive perfume once in the morning and those who spritz throughout the day. I can safely say I am the latter. Which is why you’ll always find a full size bottle of my favourite perfume in my bag! At the moment my favourite perfume is BOSS Nuit Pour Femme.

Carrying a pair of sunglasses is essential for me, even in the cooler weather. Anyone who wears contact lenses knows the struggle of dry eyes or how blinding extremely bright light can be. It gets really uncomfortable during a long day! Having tinted or polarised sunglasses can be a huge help and take that strain off your eyes. I usually carry a pair of ZeroUV sunglasses as they are so inexpensive but come in a great variety of styles. Plus sunglasses make any outfit look more chic!

You know when you find the most perfect piece for your wardrobe and you immediately fall in love. Well this is it for me! Khaki is by far my favourite colour (after black of course!) so you can imagine how happy I was when I found this wardrobe staple in that exact colour.

I do most of my shopping online now, in fact I prefer it to trawling around the shops sometimes. There’s nothing better than sitting down with a cup of tea and browsing your favourite brands. Over the years I have come across a few handy tips to save money while shopping online, hopefully they can help you too!

Voucher Codes

This one is kind of a no brainer, no one likes to pay full price if they can help it! I think it’s probably easier to get a discount when you shop online than when you shop in stores. There are lots of voucher websites you can visit or a quick Google search should throw up something. If you’re a student I would take full advantage of UNiDAYS. They have really good discounts on loads of brands. They’re always my go-to!

Free Delivery

If I had to choose one thing I don’t like about shopping online it’s paying for delivery. Luckily there are a few ways to get around this. Firstly you could search around for a free delivery voucher code, however these can be rare. Many websites offer free delivery when you spend over a certain amount. If I’m close to the spend limit then I would definitely consider spending a couple of extra pounds to save up to a fiver on delivery costs. A lot of websites offer free delivery periodically for a certain amount of time. In my experience, this usually happens at the beginning to the middle of the week. If I’m shopping on the weekend I tend to save the items to my basket and come back to purchase them when a delivery offer is on during the week!

Free Returns

This is something I learned quite recently, to my own detriment! It’s really useful to check the returns policy before you order anything, especially when you order from a website that doesn’t have a store. Not all websites offer free returns, so if you’re unhappy with your purchase you may have to fork out just to send it back!

Clearance Section

Everyone loves a bargain but sometimes it’s difficult to tell if it really is as good as it sounds. I usually find this when I look through the Sale section on a website. Often when I look at the sale price it’s not that much cheaper than full price! That’s why I always head to the clearance section because I’ve found it to have better discounted prices. Not all websites have a clearance section but if one does make sure you take full advantage!

Shopping Basket

If you’re anything like me sometimes you just get an urge to buy something! It’s a bad habit, I know! If I’m ever unsure about a making a purchase, or if I’m shopping for fun, I’ll save the item to my shopping basket, leave it for a few days and then revisit it. This usually gives me a good idea of whether I actually want that item. If I really want the item then it doesn’t take me long to come back! But most of the time I forget I’ve saved it, which says a lot! I’ve probably saved so much money on pointless purchases since I started doing this.

Let me know if you have any tips for shopping online, I’d love to hear them!

Here goes guys, first post on the blog! I thought I would share with you my love for duster coats. I am the proud owner of many duster coats, from sleeveless to ankle length. They are just so easy and simple to throw on over any outfit on a nippy summer evening. Or a perfect transition piece to your autumn wardrobe.

I grabbed this one for such a steal at £15 from Boohoo.

And of course, camel is a classic!
