My Every Day Make Up

Every time I open my DM’s on Instagram I will always find a message asking me about my make up. Most commonly, what products I use and how I found them. To be completely honest it has just been a bit of trial and error to find the products I use all the time. I hear about the latest beauty craze or must-have product which I really want to try but I always have to think twice. Firstly, finding colours that suit me is difficult. Or maybe I’m just picky! But I find most lip colours, eyeshadows or foundations from drug store brands are far too light for my skin or not pigmented enough. That leaves me with little choice but to splurge on high end brands to find what I need.

This means I very rarely buy make up online without having tried it first. I usually go to a department store where there are lots of different make up counters and try out a variety of options. I wouldn’t even like to think of all the times I didn’t try a make up product before I bought it and ended up wasting a good amount of money! So I thought I would put everything I use down in one post so that you guys don’t have to go through as much testing as I have.

The Face

I’ve been through a number of foundations over the years. I usually find one I like and stick with it for a year or two before trying a new one. It’s not often I come across the correct shade, in fact when I first started wearing makeup I could only find two brands that made a foundation to match my skin tone. Now it’s not as difficult but there is still nowhere near as much choice as there should be. So when Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty with a 40 shade range of foundation I had to try it.

I bought the Fenty Pro Filt’r foundation in shade 350 a couple of months ago and it has now become my favourite. It dries matte which is perfect as I have combination skin that can get oily and I find it controls the shine really well. It also doesn’t transfer easily so I don’t need to worry about getting it on my clothes!

Instead of using a concealer I use the Bobbi Brown foundation stick in shade Golden under my eyes. I bought this to use as a foundation but found it was too full coverage and made my skin look oily. I also found it kind of slid around my face as the day went on. So now I only use it to conceal and make sure I set it with a powder.

Bronzing powder is also a struggle for me. Finding one that isn’t too orange or ashy isn’t easy for my skin tone. I stumbled on the Bobbi Brown one by accident and was really pleased with the colour. I like that it is a compact so I can control how much product I use. I know they have quite a wide range of bronzers and blushes which are so underrated!

The Brows

Brows are the most important part of my make up. It’s true that they frame your face so I like to spend a good amount of time perfecting them. I have my brows waxed and tinted at Benefit and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough! They do most  of the hard work for me, they can make even the sparsest of brows have a defined shape. So just to finish them off on a daily basis I use Benefit’s Gimme Brow which I brush through my brows to make them a bit darker and set the hairs. Then I use Precisely My Brow to fill them in.

If I want them to be slightly darker, or I know I need them to last for longer than usual then I will use the Ka-Brow gel. A little goes a long way with this product and it’s great for carving out a really precise shape.

The Eyes

On the days I’m in a rush I just use my bronzer as eyeshadow. I feel like it works really well to tie my make up together but still looks natural. When I have a bit more time my favourite palette to use is the Mac Burgundy Times Nine. The two shades I use most from the palette are Haux all over my lid and Embark in the crease. I find the palette is really versatile and rarely ever reach for any other eyeshadow.

To line my eyes I use the Charlotte Tilbury Feline Flick liquid liner. It’s a fine pen that makes eye liner so much easier and quicker to do. It’s not too dark so it’s great for ever day. But if I want a darker wing I’ll go over the outline in the Rimmel liquid liner. I’d always recommend tracing an outline with an eyeliner pencil or lighter liquid shade and then once you’re happy with the shape, go over it to get the perfect cat eye.

The Lips

I tend to change what I wear on my lips quite often but I’ll talk you through what I currently love. I line my lips using the Mac lip liner in Whirl. I use this over most of my lips in fact, apart from the centre. Sometimes I use the Morning Coffee lip liner by Mac which is a slightly darker dusty rose colour. Then over the top I use the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb which is such a beautiful gloss. It just comes in one shade and feels comfortable to wear all day.
